Grant compliance and restricted funds

Restricted fund roll-forwards, net asset releases, funder reporting and audit support, kept every month so your restricted balances tie out when a funder or auditor asks.

WHAT WE DO

Four pieces of work, done every month

Restricted fund roll-forwards

A grant-by-grant schedule of what you started with, what came in, what was released and what remains, kept every month. It agrees with the restricted net assets on your balance sheet, and when it does not, we find out why before anyone else does.

Net asset releases

Restricted funds released from restriction as you spend them, on a regular schedule, using classes and locations in QuickBooks Online so your statement of activities shows restricted and unrestricted activity correctly under ASC 958.

Funder reporting

Budget against actual for each award, variance notes that explain what changed, and reporting packages built from your books rather than from a separate spreadsheet. One calendar of every report that is due, so none arrive as a surprise.

Audit support

Your auditor’s request list prepared, the restricted fund and grant schedules built, and their questions answered. An audit goes faster and costs less staff time when the restricted balances already tie out.

SIGNS YOU NEED IT

If any of these sound familiar

You cannot say today how much is left on each restricted grant without building a spreadsheet.
Your restricted grant balances do not add up to the restricted net assets on your balance sheet.
Net asset releases get recorded once a year, at audit time, if at all.
Funder reports are built by hand from a spreadsheet that does not match the books.
Your last audit raised restricted funds or grant tracking in the management letter.
WHERE TO START

The Grant Readiness Review

Before taking on ongoing compliance work, most organizations want to know where they stand. The Grant Readiness Review is a fixed-fee, two-week assessment that builds your restricted fund roll-forward, tests it against your balance sheet, checks federal award readiness and delivers one written report your board can act on.

Fees start at $1,500. There is no obligation to buy anything further.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you book

Where should we start if we do not know what shape our restricted funds are in?

With the Grant Readiness Review. It is a fixed-fee, two-week assessment that builds your restricted fund roll-forward, checks it against your balance sheet and tells you what an auditor or funder would find. You keep the report whether or not you hire us for ongoing work.

How is this priced?

Ongoing roll-forwards, net asset releases and audit support are part of our Strategic Partner plan, from $1,500 a month with the bookkeeping included. Organizations with many funders or federal pass-through awards get a Custom quote in writing.

Do you work in QuickBooks Online?

Yes. We set restricted funds up with classes and locations so restricted activity, functional expenses and grant reporting come straight out of your books.
