Fractional CFO for nonprofits

Financial leadership for nonprofits that have outgrown a bookkeeper and are not ready for a full-time CFO. Closed books, board reporting, cash planning and grant compliance every month, from $1,500 a month.

WHO IT IS FOR

Nonprofits where the finance questions have outgrown the finance function

Your board asks financial questions at every meeting and nobody on staff can answer them with confidence.
You carry several restricted grants and need to know what is left on each one without building a spreadsheet.
Your executive director is doing the finance work at night, and your treasurer is a volunteer with a day job.
You have outgrown a bookkeeper who records transactions, but a full-time CFO is not in the budget.
You have an audit coming, or a management letter from the last one you still have to act on.
EVERY MONTH

What you receive each month

Closed books by the 10th
Every account reconciled, restricted funds and classes tracked, and financial statements in your hands by the 10th of the following month.
Board-ready reporting pack
Statement of financial position, statement of activities and budget against actual, laid out so a board member can read it in ten minutes.
Executive director report
A written review of the month that says what changed, why it matters and what we would do about it.
Cash flow projection
A rolling forward view of cash, so a slow month of giving or a late reimbursement shows up before it becomes a problem.
Net asset release and restricted roll-forward
Restricted funds released each month as you spend them, and a fund-by-fund roll-forward that agrees with your balance sheet.
Grant reporting
The Standard level of the Grant Reporting Suite is included: grant-by-grant budget monitoring, variance notes and funder-ready packages.
Monthly CFO call
An hour with your executive director, and your treasurer if they want it, to go through the numbers and the decisions in front of you.

And once a year

Budget and forecast
An annual operating budget built with you, then reforecast through the year as grants land or change.
Audit support
Your auditor’s request list prepared, schedules built, and their questions answered, so the audit costs less of your time.
INVESTMENT

From $1,500 a month, bookkeeping included

Custom

Quoted in writing

For many funders, federal pass-through awards or a finance function that needs rebuilding. Scoped on a call before you commit.

No hourly billing. If your activity outgrows the plan, we raise it at your monthly call and agree the change together.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you book

Is the bookkeeping included, or is this advice on top?

Included. The fractional CFO plan is our Strategic Partner tier, which covers the full monthly close as well as the reporting and advisory work. You do not need a separate bookkeeper.

Do we need to be near Asheville?

No. We are based in Asheville, North Carolina, and work with nonprofits in other states, including Kentucky and Minnesota. Everything runs on shared access to your cloud accounting system and video calls.

What if we have a lot of grants or a complicated funding mix?

The $1,500 plan suits most organizations with a handful of restricted grants. If you carry many funders, federal pass-through money or heavy reporting, we scope a Custom plan and quote it in writing before you commit.

We are not sure what shape our books are in. Where should we start?

Many organizations start with the Grant Readiness Review, a fixed-fee, two-week assessment that tells you where you stand. You can take the report and decide from there.
